Welcome to the website of the World Association for Public Opinion Research!
It is my pleasure to report that we had a very successful 66th annual conference in Boston, which was an exceptional place to meet. I would like to thank our hosts at Boston University for their hospitality once again, and encourage you to check our forthcoming Newsletter for a full report. We would also like to express our gratitude to our sponsors at the annual conference: NORC, Nielsen, The Roper Center, CESOP and ITAM. We are now preparing for our next meeting in Nice in 2014!
Let me also invite you to see our membership information if you are considering to become a member or to process your renewal. There are different types of memberships for professionals and students, and membership dues take into consideration the countries’ economic circumstances.
Members receive WAPOR’s professional journal, the International Journal of Public Opinion Research (IJPOR), which is considered as “the first truly comparative, multidisciplinary forum serving the international community” of public opinion researchers.
WAPOR carries out many of its activities and events in close collaboration with the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) and with the World Association for Market, Social, and Opinion Research (ESOMAR). Recent documents that you may find useful include “Standard Definitions: Final Dispositions of Case Codes and Outcome Rates for Surveys” (with AAPOR) and the “ESOMAR/WAPOR Guide to Opinion Polls and Published Surveys.”
Our first regional chapter, WAPOR Latinoamérica, is formally established and you may want to check more detailed information about the chapter’s membership dues and activities.
If you are interested in knowing more about WAPOR, I invite you to take a look at our different documents, newsletters, press releases and, very especially, to our Code of Ethics and our Constitution. The latter defines our mission, which includes promoting the right to conduct and publish public opinion research in each country of the world, and our activities, such as “encouraging high professional standards, promoting improved research techniques, informing journalists about the appropriate forms of publishing poll results, observing the democratic process and use of polls in elections”, among others.
If you have any questions about WAPOR please feel free to contact either the WAPOR Secretariat (renae@wapor.org) or me (amoreno@itam.mx).
